I/O Modules - PMC form factor
All I/O modules from Speedgoat come in the form of highest quality PMC boards. PMC is a mezzanine standard leveraging the PCI-bus. It is small enough to physically fit into any of our machines either directly (PMC "slots") or with the help of a passive or an active carrier card for PCI, PCIe, and cPCI slots.
The appropriate carrier required for your selected Speedgoat real-time target machine is always included into the delivery of your selected I/O module.
Most new designs of I/O modules first become available in the PMC form factor, which guarantees you access to the latest technology. Furthermore, being able to use and reuse the same I/O-modules for various real-time systems, application areas, and projects increases your return of investment and significantly flattens the learning curve when you embark on a new project with a different machine.
Speedgoat does not usually recommend to use I/O module in the PC/104 form factor for x86-based real-time systems, as the ISA bus has slow access times compared to standard PCI buses. And only few new I/O module designs become available with that bus anymore.
