Basic real-time target machine - Drives & peripherals

The mainboard also has a CompactFlash site which we equip with a 1GB flash disk. This disk is the machine's main drive which contains the FreeDOS installation and the xPC Target kernels to boot. The use of a flash disk has the advantage that the operation of the machine is independent on a mechanically rotating hard disk.

If you want to stream signal data onto a non-volatile media via xPC Target's file scopes at higher rates (>1kHz) for data logging, Speedgoat strongly recommends the use of the optionally available 160GB industrial hard disk with anti vibration protection. This hard disk does not only offer enough storage space, but it eliminates potential performance problems caused by the lower writing transfer rates of compact flash devices.

The 3 ½" floppy drive and CD-ROM drive are accessible at the front (under the lid). Furthermore two USB ports are accessible at the front (under the lid) which allow the easy transfer of xPC Target kernels and other files from host to target machine and vice versa via a USB memory device.

At the rear the following peripherals can be connected: VGA (monitor), keyboard, mouse, 1 x RS232 serial, and Ethernet (dedicated PCI card).
